Fun Filled Weekend!!

Thursday – April 19th

Today I went to New York & Company for lunch. I had a spend $40 and get $20 off coupon and everything was 40% off so I had to go! I got a pair of khakis and 3 shirts for $28 so I was ecstatic! All of my shirts are too short for me lately so I needed to get some new longer ones. I was SO proud of myself because I was back at a decent time from lunch and I only went to one store ;0)

Tonite I picked Canon up from daycare and everyone was outside because it was beautiful. When we got home Canon ate some more of his bottle and then went to sleep for like 2.5 hrs, poor little guy was tired. He deserves to be tired because he has been through a lot this month. He is so strong and brave! Daddy was at the first softball game and we decided not to go because it was just the office playing each other so it was kind of like a scrimmage. I guess Bill’s team won 26-25. Hmm, kind of a high score I wonder what happened there!

When Bill got home we gave Canon a bath and fed him since he was awake and then lightly swaddled him and put him in his crib and he went to sleep.

I forgot to blog that we got Canon’s newborn pictures and 3 months framed in beautiful 3 slot frames by one of the guys I work with. He did a wonderful job and his price was so reasonable too. I think he will get a lot of our work, 6 months, 9 months, a year! Goodness all of these pictures ;0)

Friday – April 20th

I was SO happy it was Friday. Beth and Conor wanted to spend all day with Canon and watch him tonite too so we said sure.

They came over at 7:30 and then Bill was off to work. I of course called around 10 to make sure that Bill told them everything he needed to because that’s me and I’m the mom ;0) They took Canon for a walk around lunchtime and went to see Bill and he got to hang out with Canon at lunch so he thought that was nice ;0) I was envious!

They took him to Cost Plus World Market and Barnes and Noble and he was a good boy. He napped and played and did tummy time. They are so good about playing with him and making him do tummy time. They also got to feed him his rice cereal and sweet potatoes and had fun doing that.

When Bill & I got home they looked exhausted and we felt guilty about going out but still did ;0) They told us to and to stay out until 10. Well we went to pick up Canon’s pictures and they turned out pretty good. We now have more pictures to frame so I will have to talk to Greg about that ;0) Then on to dinner at J. Alexanders. We had tortillas and spinach queso dip, filet, baked potatoes, and carrot cake. It was a nice time for us. We got to talk and just be together with no one waiting on the other one to finish eating so one of us can watch Canon. Since we were at Somerset we had to go to Gymboree, Gap, and Baby Gap! We found some cute shirts at Gymboree that we had to get for the baby boy :0) At Gap I found a really nice long sleeved shirt that was long so I can wear it with my hot mommy jeans. When Beth, Kristy, Susie and I had our girl’s day we all bought these jeans and Kristy and I call them our hot mommy jeans ;0) I know we are silly. Anyways, then I went to Baby Gap and found this little stuffed dump truck rattle toy so we bought that and Canon seemed to like it. If its bright and can be chewed on that it pretty much passes his test ;0)

Saturday – April 21st

I went to the Berkley mom2mom sale with my friend Sam and her little one Alex. Canon stayed home with daddy because no strollers were allowed and we can’t put him in the carrier yet because he is not allowed to be in any straddle things until 1 month from his surgery. Anyways, we all had a good time. I found a photographer that we might use for his 9 month pictures. She has some really cool things that she can do and I liked her stuff. Her website is http://www.picturethisbylisa.com/. She says you get to keep the proofs and her print prices are SO reasonable! We talked about how I would like them outside and she gave some good suggestions so we will see.

When I got home Bill went and got his hair cut. He laughed and said now he looks even more like Canon. Well then we decided since it was such a nice day that we would take a walk. We put on Canon’s floppy hat and off we went. We walked in Huntington Woods and admired the neighborhood and the scenery. I think that when we move it will either be to there or another place in Berkley. They are both really nice towns. We found out that Canon does NOT like the sun. He is SO our child. He scrunches up his face and turns his head into you so we tried to be in the shade as much as we could. We probably walked 2 miles and then came home and all napped. That night we went to a barbeque in Ferndale since our friend Andy was in town. Canon was the life of the party. Everyone thought he was so cute and well behaved. He kept trying to grab Bill’s beer bottle so everyone had a chuckle about that. We got to hear the hurricane story from Andy with Mickey breaking in when he needed to. It was hilarious, Andy is an awesome story-teller, and we miss him dearly! We then did the nighttime ritual.

Sunday – April 22nd

We had Einstein bagels and read the paper, our Sunday ritual. We then got ready to go to the zoo and then Canon fell asleep so we ate our lunch that Bill had packed for the zoo and waited for him to wake up. We ended up getting to the zoo around 1:00. We first went to the butterfly house. Canon liked it except when the sun was on him. The hat we put on him was too big and annoyed him and us all day so we need to remember not to put him in that till a little later on. He thought the butterflies were cool and stared at them and liked to look up at all the plants and windows. A lot of the animals were not out so and it was hot so we stayed for like 1.5 hrs. We got to see the giraffes but it was hard for him to see because he was in the stroller and they have all of those concrete walls and fences so we had to take him out and then he just got too tired so we decided to go. We did get to see the white rhinos and the hippo so that was cool. The rhinos are new and the hippo is never out. The hippo even went underwater and was swimming so Bill and I liked that!

We bought Canon a book to commemorate his first trip to the zoo and then went home. I waited in line SO long and there were so many people there that we were happy to go home. I hung out with Canon and played and Bill took a nap and then Canon sacked out later and we both took a nap.

We gave him squash today and he seemed to like it. We also tried to get him to drink out of a sippy cup but it came out too fast so he spit everything that was in his mouth out. We need to put the valve in and then try it again.

Beth & Conor came over later and loved him up because they are leaving for Greece on Thursday and will be gone 10 days so they will be missing him. I can’t even imagine leaving him for that long :0( I am worried about our weekend in July when it will be 2 nights so we will see. Kristy made him a tag blanket so they brought that over for him. It has ribbon tags on the end and is Detroit lions fabric!

Monday – April 23rd

Everyone had a case of the Mondays today, including Canon. Brooke called a couple of times and asked how he was this weekend and we said fine. He was tired and wouldn’t eat so she was having a day.

I did some fun stuff at work today and Bill only worked till 6 so that was nice. Canon and I got the mail after we got home from daycare and then we sat on the couch and he ate some and then fell asleep. We laid him in his crib and then ate. He got up around 7 and then we played and cuddled, ate, took a bath and went to bed.

Interesting things about Canon:

1. He does NOT like the sun!
2. He’s adorable ;0)
3. He is now in 6-9 month clothing and is outgrowing some 6 month so he’s moving to 9 month.
4. He loves to pull earrings and necklaces.
5. He loves to give you kisses on your nose, cheeks, and chin. They are kind of slobbery but sweet.
6. He loves to receive kisses and raspberries.
7. He enjoys laughing and laughs really hard when you start laughing!
8. His laugh sounds like he’s swallowing himself. (his mamas sounded like that when she was little too)
9. He is scooting all over the place now with his head and his butt. He hasn’t gotten the hang of the tummy yet but does a lot with his butt.
10. He loves to chew on things! Puts everything in his mouth!
11. He is close to sitting up on his own and sometimes he is just too tired so he arches his back and lays down.
12. I think he is starting to like the camera!
13. He likes Hobbes and stares at him and touches him when he gets close enough to him.
14. He is putting his feet in his mouth and it is SO cute.
15. He loves to be naked!

Tuesday

Not too eventful. I did notice that Canon had a horribly red bottom so I put lots of balmex on it and questioned whether the sweet potatoes were going over well or not.... We gave him a bath and he is kind of learning how to splash, its lots of fun to watch.

Bill brought home the laptop so I could sleep while he worked and we got to chat about our days, it was nice.

Wednesday

We had Earth Day at work, that was kind of cool. Work was tough, we are trying to set my laptop up to be able to do development and compiling and its not working out so well :0(

Brooke called me around 3 something to see if she could put diaper rash cream on Canon because of his stitches and I told her yes. We started talking further and his bottom was red again today and it looked like there might have been hives and/or blisters. I called the pediatrician concerned about this and thinking it might be an allergy. I talked with them and had Bill take Canon in at 4 so they could look at it, they don't diagnose rashes over the phone. He does indeed have a rash and they are not sure if it's bacterial or if its a yeast infection. I am betting it is a yeast infection because of that stupid amoxycillin :0( We got some ointment and the ped said to be sure to keep putting neosporin on the stitches and incision so it doesn't get infected. I pray everyday that it doesn't get infected because I don't want him to have to go through that! Poor little guy has been through so much already. We are ready for April to be over!

I went to group tonite and we talked about sleep. I left the boys home so they could nap. I mingled with everyone and got to know some people better and have decided that the cliche don't judge a book by its cover is true ;0) We are all dealing with lots of stuff. RSV, rotavirus, ear infections, night terrors, yeast infections and surgeries... Then we talked about mom2mom sales and let the rest of the girls in on the secret ;0)

Well I gotta get ready for bed so good night all!

Monday, April 16th

Back to work and daycare after our nice relaxing, snuggly 4 day weekend. I didn't sleep well last night because Bill was at work quite late and I was not sleeping well without him so 5:30 came TOO early this morning.

Well Mommy goofed today because I took Thursday instead of today as my day off. I didn't schedule that with Brooke so she had too many kids to pick up the after school kids. She asked if Canon could be picked up at 3:00 so luckily our wonderful friends, Beth & Conor, saved us. Conor volunteered to watch Canon until I got home. Bill went and put the car seat in Conor's car and got Canon all settled and then went back to work and Conor brought Canon home.

I was successful at work today by learning to fix my mistakes. I completely wiped out the changes I fixed last week today so I got to debug my errors again, compile and move the changes to the test workstation to test the fixes. It is computer talk but I was quite proud of myself. My trainer was too.

I decided that after 7 years I should take my wedding dress in and get it preserved. I might have a girl some day... we'll see. I went to the drycleaner and they said that it looked great and that people have brought their dresses in that were older than 7 years! I felt good about that and relieved that I finally will have it preserved like it should be. Everyone there thought it was beautiful too ;0)

I came home and chatted with Conor and Bill came home and we ate. He then fed Canon while I did some other stuff and then we all took a nap. We woke up from our hour nap and then gave Canon a bath, got another bottle down him and then put him down for bedtime. Bill then went back to work :0( That seems to be his life lately. We are lucky that he puts our time first and then goes in after we are sleeping. We are lucky he is Canon's daddy and my hubby!

Well I must do some things before bed so, goodnight all!

Catch Up & Joleen's Version

Surgery

So, now is my turn to blog about the surgery. I am SO glad it is over. We spent all kinds of cuddle time and kept him up late on Wednesday night. Bill woke him up before 5 on Thursday and gave him Pedialyte and then we went back to sleep and Canon slept until 7:45 when we woke him up. We got to the hospital and didn't go by registration so some old cranky lady gave us a hard time but a nice woman from registration brought our paperwork up and we were set.

We got called in and we stripped Canon down and put him in a little hospital gown. It was huge on him and it was kind of girly but oh well nobody ever likes hospital gowns anyway. He was such a good boy and in a great mood. He smiled at all the doctors and flirted with the nurses as Bill said. He got a little fussy around 9:00 and then took an hour long nap and the nurse anesthetists (sp?) came in and were talking to me and then they were ready to take him and I didn't realize it and I was a little clung to the crib so I let go and kissed him and went to the waiting room with tears in my eyes and concern in my heart.

We decided to go get some water and we were told to hurry right back and we were given a pager. When we were on our way back the pager went off and I flew through the doors and Dr. Kass was on the phone and he had found cysts and asked if we could take them off. I was unprepared for this so I handed the phone to Bill and he took care of it.

I thought the hardest part would be seeing him go off but it turned out waiting was grueling. I don't remember exactly how long the surgery took but I think it was a little before noon when the dr. came and told us everything went well and they were just waiting on Canon to wake up. He took about an hour to wake up and just when I was starting to get really concerned and upset the nurse came in and said we could come into recovery and see him.

Looking at him with an iv and some other wires was really tough but he looked so cute all snuggled up in his warmed blanket and seemed like he was trying to stay awake but would drift off. We decided to start creeping the blanket back and the nurse said we could hold him so I did and then we got a 5 oz bottle down him and he perked right up and then we were off about 1:30 and took him home.

I picked up his prescription for Tylenol with Codeine while the boys slept but we did not end up using it because the regular strength Tylenol was working just fine.

Recovery & Friday

We got home and Canon was in a pretty good mood, still giggling and smiling and generally pretty happy. He napped a lot on Friday and we gave him 3-4 doses of regular strength Tylenol that day. When we changed his diaper that day and looked I almost cried because there was SO much work done down there. We refer to it as a train wreck. There was the circumcision of course and then there was stitches all down the ridge line where they took off the cysts. We have been putting Neosporin regular ointment on it and then used washcloths for awhile but stopped after a couple of days because that was giving him diaper rash, poor little guy. He was so good humored about everything though and continues to be.

I remember when Canon was first born and he peed on me a little but he outgrew that. Well now that he's been circumcised he is doing that again. I was all ready for Conor and Beth to come over and then when I was changing Canon I felt something wet on my forehead and my hair and determined that yes, he peed in my hair. I got to take 2 showers that day, little squirt!

Beth & Conor came over and brought us dinner and dessert and came to see Canon. We are so lucky and thankful for friends like them! Conor marveled at Canon's demeanor. It is because he is a baby. If it was one of us we would be feeling it.

Saturday

This day was like Friday and we stayed in because we didn't want to have to strap Canon into his carseat anymore than we absolutely need to. We have been holding him a lot and letting him play in his gym. I think Bill worked on Saturday afternoon and Canon and I napped and just hung out. It was nice to be able to spend so much time with him. Bill went out and got Chinese for us but it wasn't very good. We can not seem to find a consistently good Chinese restaurant besides PF Changs down here. We may just have to always use PF Changs from now on.

Sunday

Einstein day, bagels and the paper. Bill got breakfast and then went to work until noon and I hung out with Canon and tried to make a card with my scrapbook stuff but Canon was all excited by the paper and made it very challenging to do anything. We had taken a nap for an hour before that but once he was up he wanted to "help" mama too ;0) Cutie pie!

I left the boys and went to my friend Lori's baby shower. I hung out with a bunch of my friends from work and had a nice time. It was at Pasquales and they had a nice spread. Bread, salad, relish tray, mostaccioli, pizza and Costco cake - YUM! I got Baby Jacobs 2 cute sleepers, a teether, and 10 little board books that are for numbers 1-10 and have animals for each number. I should have bought one for Canon too but I need to restrain myself sometimes! Baby showers are pretty fun. I love to see the cute baby stuff.

After the shower I went to get tissue paper for another baby's gift, cubicle hooks from Office Depot and sweet potatoes, squash, and carrots for Canon.

We gave Canon jar food for the first time today. We gave him sweet potatoes and he was like, what is this stuff but kept opening his mouth and eating so he must have liked them. We gave him his oatmeal after that and his face was priceless, like oooh "this stuff is different than that other stuff mom & dad".

We also gave him a bath because it was 72 hrs after the surgery so we could. He was okay with it but I think it might have softened stitches and stuff up because he seemed like it hurt so we gave him Tylenol after and he was fine. He is such a trooper and an awesome little boy!

Thursday, April 12

Today was Canon's surgery. To say the least Joleen and I were nervious. Although, we knew that it was a realatively normal procedure (hypospatis repair and circumscion). The surgery was scheduled for 9:45am. Which we had hoped it would be earlier, because he normally has 2 bottles by that time in the morning. He was not supposed to eat anything after midnight, and not to drink anything less than four hours from the surgery. So, we fed him a little later on Wednesday night and then woke him up at 5:00am to have some pedilyte.

He was such a good boy in the morning. He was all smiles and giggling. Once we got to the hospital, he was flirting with all the nurses. He is a little charmer. His surgery went well, the doctor found a couple of cysts that he removed. Once out of surgery he slept for a very long time, even the nurses were wondering when he was going to wake up. Once he was awake, he was all smiles again. He is such a little trooper. He did not even cry or act cranky.

We are relived that he is fine and is still the same little boy that we love. Thank you all for the positive thoughts and prayers.

Thursday

Not much exciting happened today. I went to Jo-anns at lunch to buy some spray adhesive. I have a couple of projects I want to do for Canon using it. I have never worked with it before but Bill has so I know he will help me ;0) I also took some stuff back to Target. It was a blah day because of the weather. Canon went on a field trip to Caesarland with the kids and loved it though. I guess Brooke needed to get out. I think I would too. I told her she could have Caesarland but the first trip to the zoo is mine! I can not wait until it is warm so we can go there. It should be lots of fun for him.

He has been taking naps from like 7-10 and then getting up and eating and then going back to bed. Poor little guy he gets all tuckered out!

Friday

I went to work for 2 hours this morning. Bill called me around 7:30 and said that Brooke was sick so she would not be able to watch Canon today and Bill had a day ahead of him so I would need to watch him. No problem ;0) I love spending the day with him! I picked him up at Bill's work because he needed to go in earlier to get some stuff done for a meeting. I guess all of the girls in the office held Canon and played with him. When I got there he was sacked and was taking a nap. I decided that we were going to Toys R Us. They were having a special deal on Fisher-Price toys. You buy one for more than $20 and then you get one up the value of 19.99 for free. I wanted the drop and roar dinosaur for Canon so I decided to see if they had it. They sure did! I got that and then this cement mixer truck that dumps and spins and comes with 3 balls to play with. It was also buy any movie and get the second one half off. I got Canon Cars and Peter Pan. He was a lucky little boy today. He was so good too. He slept until we got into Toys R Us and then we woke up. It was like he knew he was in a toy store ;0)

We then went to Kohls and this is where he was like allright mom I'm done. I bought my socks and we went home. He fell asleep again so I let him sleep and I pumped and we waited for dad to get home. He got home and we packed and drove up north to my parents. It was not a bad drive. I tried to sleep but mostly I just rested in the back with Canon. We got up there around 8 something and then we fed Canon and he played with grandma and grandpa for a little while and then we swaddled him up and he went to bed.

Saturday

More time to visit with grandma and grandpa and play. Grandma made a big old turkey dinner and kept hinting that Canon wanted turkey and potatoes and everything he is not allowed to have yet. I need to keep my eye on these grandmas! My brother came up north and saw us and couldn't believe how big Canon has gotten. I know, sniff sniff. We left there around 5:00 and then went to Bill's parent’s house.

We got there and played and visited. Grandma & Grandpa watched Canon so Bill, me, Katie, Don (her boyfriend), and Ike could go out. We went out to see Wild Hogz and even had popcorn and pop. It was such a nice time and nice to get out.

Sunday

We played and visited and then went to Great Grandma Brugger’s for Easter. We had ham and grandma’s famous noodles. I can’t wait till Canon can have some of her noodles because they are the best. Shane and Bailey had an Easter egg hunt and Canon will be able to participate next year. He was content sleeping and being held.

We left Coleman around 5 something and got into Berkley a little before 8. We fed Canon and gave him a bath and then played a little and then put him to bed.

Monday

Bill took Canon to the pediatrician to check his ears and they are good. She said that we could start him on veggies anytime after his surgery too. I can NOT wait. We are going to start with sweet potatoes a couple of days after. He weighed 15 lbs 9 ozs today so he gained an oz in like a week or so.

When they got home Bill was trying to get him to play with his new cement mixer toy but once Canon found out that he couldn’t fit the balls in his mouth he was not impressed. Bill resorted back to the little stuffed giraffe that he likes to chew on and gave him that :0)

What a long day!!! I went and got pizza for dinner because neither one of us felt like cooking so we did that and we mostly slept and laid around. Canon went down for a nap around 7 or so and didn’t wake up until 1:00. He was a tired little guy. When he woke up he ate very little and Bill changed his soaked diaper and he went back to bed.

Tuesday

I missed the little guy all day today. I didn’t see him much Monday and didn’t see him at all this morning. We came home today and took a nap until dad got home. We then got up and ate some bottle and played. I brought down his Easter basket finally and he got to play with some new toys. I got this chicken that’s a finger puppet and he really likes that. I think it is a close second to his giraffe. I read him all 3 books he got and then snuggled and cuddled. I also fed him his oatmeal tonight and he took SO long. It was like he wanted it and then he didn’t but I kept trying. He is SO funny!

While we were changing him tonight he was trying to put his feet in his mouth and suck on them. It was cute watching that and we tried to capture it digitally but were not able to. I hope he does it more because it’s the cutest thing to watch. He was also talking up a storm like usual and his goos and gaas are getting more frequent and distinct.

Goodbye until tomorrow…

Wednesday

Back on track! I am finally updating my blog on the day it is. I went back to work today and nursed a coke in the morning and had some toast.

It was SO cold down here today and of course I wore my fancy leather spring jacket and not a wool one like a smart person would do! I froze when I went out to lunch. I have also taken to carrying my umbrella because it is STUPID nesting season for the geese and they are attacking people if you go near them. Now hear this all of you stupid geese, Canada wants you, WE don't! We take their trash, why can't they take their darn geese! Sorry - little rant there!

Anyways, tonite was group and Sam and Chris's house. It was about childhood illnesses and they talked about good stuff. They said ear infections are not contagious but the virus that can cause them is! This pretty much sums it up - viruses stink! We left early so Bill could go into work and we could feed Canon cereal and put him to bed at a decent time. It was funny, a lot of other babies were crying but Canon was peacefully sleeping away :0) It is such fun to watch him when he sleeps!

Oh and btw he now weighs, 15 lbs 8 oz and will be 6 months on Monday! He has surgery on Thursday of next week so I may drift off on the blogging again but I'll try to keep everyone up-to-date!

He is being circumcized now because the pediatric urologist wanted to wait and they are going to fix the mild case of hypospadia. Here is a link for more about it.

Roller Coaster Ride

Saturday

We introduced Canon to oatmeal on Saturday. He was like hmm not really all that into it. I think he is just as happy with rice cereal, silly boy. He ate it like a good boy though.

We took Canon to get his 6 month pictures done. It was a good time. He could have cooperated a little more but oh well I am sure we got some cute ones! I think I will always remember to wear black because photographers LOVE that. I feel so bad for the photographer because she is doing everything out of her living room and she really wants to turn her garage into a studio and she desperately needs too but we all know how much remodeling costs! Anyways, we were done by noon and got there around 10. We all had puppets in our hands and made faces at him and sang and just did silly stuff. He must have been thinking "these guys are cracking me up, they'll actually act this silly just so I'll smile" :0)

After that we came home and I had a girls day that started at 1:00 pm and went till 1:00 am! CRAZY! We went all over. It was such a blast to hang out with the girls. Our timing was always last minute but we made it to the stores on time and we even closed Gymboree! Kristy and I had to have some tractor stuff and it was ON SALE!

Sunday

I was so tired on Sunday. We did the usual, read the newspaper, Canon likes to try and rip it and eat it now. He gets so excited that his hands shake and he smiles real big like huh huh! Bill went to work for quite awhile on Sunday and Canon and I hung out and had a nice day.

When we put Canon to bed it took 2 hours. That is not normal. We determined he had gas and needed to poop so we tried the remedies and he did end up drifting off to sleep.

Monday

My day off! Canon was crying for like an hour straight, I could tell something was up. I called the ped and got an appt. Well right after that he had a huge stinky full diaper. I changed him and he was happy. I decided to still go to the ped's office though. Good thing! Canon had a little infection in each ear! Oh yea, another first, and an unwelcome one at that! I went and filled the Amoxycillin and then Bill came home at lunch and we gave it to him, he took it so well and he liked the "cherry" taste! He must have been thinking, "this is different, I think I like it, mommy and daddy wouldn't steer me wrong, right?"

Tuesday

I was SO sick. Not good. I ached all over and was so weak and it just wasn't a pleasant day. Bill took Canon to daycare and I slept. They came home around 5 and then around 5:45 Canon went down for a nap from then until 10. Bill went into work around 9 because he couldn't wait any longer for baby boy to wake up. When he got up I fed him and gave him his medicine and then Bill came home so we both put Canon to bed ;0)
